ISLAMABAD: As the countdown to the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference begins, delegations from various countries have started arriving in Islamabad, while others are expected in the coming days to participate in the event.

Dr Tagelin Ibrahim Hamad, President of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), an organisation affiliated with the United Nations ECOSOC, arrived on Sunday, leading an international delegation dedicated to promoting global peace.

In the same context, parliamentary delegations from Guyana, Congo, and Somalia have also reached Islamabad. From Somalia, Sadiya Yassin Haji, First Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, arrived along with her representative team.

From Congo, Prosper Kasongo Lukali Tunda, Member of Parliament, arrived to participate in the conference. From Guyana, Ubraj Narine, Director of National Peace Initiatives, also reached Islamabad.

Moreover, accompanying staff members from Morocco have also arrived ahead of the Speaker of the House of Councillors of Morocco, who is expected to arrive tomorrow. The Moroccan delegation includes the speaker’s executive director, senior journalists, interpreters and other support staff.

In another step aimed at strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations, Russia will send a high-level delegation to Islamabad next week.

In a statement issued here, the Russian Embassy in Islamabad said that representatives from both houses of the Russian parliament will attend the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in Islamabad on November 11–12.

Seasoned politicians will co-lead the delegation. The delegation will also include Vladimir Chizhov, Chair of the Russia-Pakistan Friendship Group of the Russian Federation Council, who visited Pakistan in February 2024 to observe the general elections.

The Russian delegation is expected to meet with senior Pakistani parliamentarians on the sidelines of the ISC to discuss ways to further promote bilateral relations, with a particular focus on parliamentary cooperation.
