KHAIRPUR, June 3: A joint meeting of elected representatives of the people and the officials of irrigation, revenue and police departments held at the DCO House on Friday expressed dissatisfaction over performance of police in maintaining law and order, and directed the department to improve security conditions in the district.

District Nazim Syed Niaz Hussain Shah who presided over the meeting said that the district would extend to police all possible help to ensure peace and security.

The meeting took serious notice of non-supply of irrigation water to the tail-end of various minors and canals and decided to take action against irrigation officials and farmers involved in water theft.

DPO Javed Jiskani informed the meeting that water theft and disputes over water rotation usually spiral into tribal clashes.

An official of the irrigation east division Khairpur said that the department had filed FIRs against some 100 farmers but they had not yet been arrested.

Chief engineer irrigation, Sukkur, told the meeting that a new executive engineer would take charge within two days at the irrigation east division Khairpur.
