KARACHI: In a major step to enhance urban security, the Sindh government has decided to link the internal and external cameras installed in the Peoples Bus and upcoming EV Taxi Services with the Safe City network.

Chairing a meeting here on Thursday, Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that integrating the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) with the Safe City Project will not only make the public transport system safer but also enhance security and traffic management in urban areas through modern technology. He added once the cameras are integrated, security monitoring, traffic control, and public safety measures will significantly improve in Karachi and other major cities.

Mr Memon said the Sindh government is taking active steps to launch the modern EV Taxi Service in December to provide citizens with affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly travel options.

A delegation of investors met him to discuss the project. The meeting was also attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and other officials. The delegates shared proposals on the project’s structure, the establishment of charging stations, and operating models.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Memon said that a modern transport system is urgently needed in Karachi. He noted that the government would launch the EV Taxi Service by December in Karachi and later expanded it to other major cities.

The minister also said that a Pink EV Taxi Service will be introduced exclusively for women to ensure safe and comfortable travel for female passengers. The taxis will feature advanced monitoring technology to maintain efficiency, transparency, and safety, he added.
