BAHAWALPUR: A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team claimed to have arrested two device operators on the charges of illegal deduction of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) subsistence allowance of women beneficiaries.

According to FIA sources, on the complaints of several women of illegal deduction from their quarterly allowance money, the agency organised a raid at the BISP centre at Adda Permit in Lodhran district on Wednesday and arrested two device operators Tanveer and Jamshed red-handed.

As per FIA sources, there were numerous complaints of women about their illegal deduction of Rs1,000 to Rs1,500 from each of the beneficiary by device operators. The FIA spokesman claimed that several CNICs, bank contact devices and other material was recovered from the arrested men. The FIA registered a case against them and shifted them to Multan circle office. Further investigation in underway.

FAKE COP: Sahooka police in Vehari district claimed to have arrested a man impersonating a constable.

According to PRO Adnan Tariq, suspect Maqbool is a resident of Village 40 and has no police service records. He allegedly impersonated a police constable and uploaded his video on social media. Maqbool allegedly extorted money from traders and citizens in markets. On complaints, police officials checked him and after ascertaining that he impersonated a constable arrested him.

A case was registered against him and he was lodged in the police lock-up.

ACCIDENT: A man and his son were killed in a traffic accident on Karam Road near Akbar Shah near Luddan in Vehari district on Thursday.

According to Vehari Rescue 1122, Ghulam Abbas (36) and his son Ayan (8) were going on a motorcycle, when they were hit by a tractor-trolley. Both died on the spot. Police reached the scene and shifted their bodies to Mailsi THQ hospital. Luddan Station House Officer Shamoon reached the scene and took tractor driver into custody.

WHEAT: Wheat on about 700,000 acres of land against the target of 2.68 million acres has so far been cultivated in three districts of Bahawalpur division.

This was stated by Commissioner Bahawalpur Musarrat Jabeen while presiding over a meeting held in connection with ‘grow more wheat’ campaign at her office on Thursday.

The commissioner directed the officials of agriculture (extension) department to ensure achieving the target by Nov 30.

According to an official handout, Director Agriculture Muhammad Jamil Ghauri informed the meeting that so far as many as 113,000 Kissan cards have been issued in the division and each of the farmers would be advanced Rs300,000 loan without interest.
