GUJRANWALA, June 1: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain Minhas has criticised the police for not helping judiciary in criminal cases by promptly producing witnesses or submitting chargesheets in courts.
Presiding over a meeting of the justice and criminal coordination committee on Thursday, he claimed that courts were working regularly but the police were not cooperating with them to dispose of cases. In most of the cases, he said police officials failed to appear before court for evidence.
DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq assured the committee that police officials would be directed to submit chargesheets in time and produce witnesses with their evidence.
ACQUITTED: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Thursday acquitted Shafqat and Javed Iqbal and declared seven other accused as proclaimed offenders in a kidnap for ransom case of Rasul Nagar, Alipur Chattha.
According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Sajjad Husain and demanded Rs1 million ransom for his release on Dec 6, 2005. Later, they released him after receiving ransom.
APPREHENSION: The people have expressed their concern over the mysterious movement of over a four dozen families of Ghotki, Sindh, who have been staying in tents at the main railway station for the last few days.
Reports said most of families, comprising male members, were seen asleep during the day time who moved from their tents at night.
When asked, visitors claimed they left Sindh as their children were dying from hunger owing to joblessness. Now they were seeking jobs in the private sector. The railway station administration said they were the poor people and took protection at station.
