CHARSADDA: Local residents and workers of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf staged a protest after water from an irrigation channel entered houses in Kausarabad area near Charsadda city, damaging several houses.

The affected families alleged that despite repeated reminders about defects in the irrigation canal, the authorities concerned didn’t take any action, leading to the present situation.

They said that neither was there any arrangement to drain water from houses nor had any government official reached the spot to express sympathies with the affected families.

The protesters, chanting slogans, demanded immediate repair of the canal, drainage

of water and provision of compensation to the affected families.

The protesters said that MPA of the constituency and the district administration officials had become completely indifferent to the public problems.

They said despite repeated complaints, no one had taken notice.

The residents warned if immediate steps were not taken, the scope of their protest would be expanded.
