LAHORE, May 28: The PML-N celebrated the eighth anniversary of nuclear tests on Sunday, praising Nawaz Sharif for refusing to give in to all external pressures as the country’s then chief executive.

At a ceremony in the city, party leaders said the nuclear capability had made the country’s defence invincible.

The nuclear tests were carried out on this day in 1998 when Mr Sharif was the prime minister. Then US president Bill Clinton had called Mr Sharif several times to dissuade him from tests. Even financial assistance was offered as an incentive.—Staff Reporter
