DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Thirteen people, including women and children, lost their lives while three others were injured when a truck plunged into a deep ravine in the Mughal Kot area of Dera Ismail Khan district on Friday.

According to police, the truck was travelling from Khanozai Muslim Bagh area in Balochistan to Peer Ashab village in Paharpur tehsil, carrying passengers along with livestock and household goods.

When the vehicle reached the Dana-Sar area in the jurisdiction of Mughal Kot police station, its brakes failed, causing it to go out of control and fall into a gorge.

Rescue officials confirmed that more than a dozen people, including six women and three children of the same family, died on the spot.

The truck was destroyed in the crash, the officials added.

Local residents rushed to the spot, carried out rescue operations and shifted the bodies and the injured to the hospital.

The injured were identified as 28-year-old Yousaf, eight-year-old Amanullah and 26-year-old Darya Khan. They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition was stated to be critical.
