Canadian PM to visit US

OTTAWA, May 27: Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will visit the United States in July, according to an official announcement here on Saturday.

The announcement said Mr Harper would be in Washington on July 6 for a working meeting with President Bush. This will be the second meeting between the two leaders this year.

The announcement further said: The two leaders will discuss a range of bilateral and global issues, and explore areas where there are opportunities to deepen our bilateral ties and advance our shared global agenda.

AFGHANISTAN: Talking to journalists later in the day, Stephen Harper said here western forces air strike that claimed civilian lives in Afghanistan last week was an ‘unfortunate accident that could hurt the work of Canadian troops in the short-term.

But he ignored calls for the withdrawal of Canadian troops from Afghanistan.
