QUETTA, May 26: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Balochistan, has decided that the party’s elected representatives will not defend themselves in courts in cases pertaining to their sanads, saying that the they had been filed with political motives.

JUI’s provincial amir Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani at a press conference after the party’s Balochistan shoora meeting on Friday criticised the issuance of a notification declaring sanads issued by seminaries equivalent to matriculation certificates for local body elections.

“JUI-F councillors and nazims will not defend their sanads challenged in the courts as the notification issued by the education department does not have a legal position,” Maulana Sherani said.

He claimed that performance of JUI ministers in the government affairs and provincial assembly was far better than that of other coalition partners. He said the coalition partners were upset because of the better performance of the JUI.

He complained that the other parties in the coalition were creating problems in release of funds to obstruct work on development schemes.

He said the JUI’s electoral strength had increased because of provision of basic amenities to people by its ministers.

Maulana Sherani opposed the merger of levies into police and said the government should respect the cabinet decision and provincial assembly’s resolution against the move.

He opposed use of force to resolve political issues.
