KARACHI: The Sindh forest department has replanted a 150-year-old banyan tree that collapsed due to strong winds during rains in Qasr-i-Naz.

The tree was relocated to a nearby suitable site with the help of heavy cranes, said a press release issued by the Chief Minister House on Tuesday.

According to a technical report, the roots of the banyan tree had been damaged by fungus and termite infestation caused by water deficiency. The rescue operation also ensured the preservation of adjacent neem and kamini trees, which were safely replanted at better locations.

CM Murad Ali Shah termed the restoration of the tree “a significant step in climate conservation” and lauded the efforts of the forest department’s rescue team and urged the youth to recognise the importance of protecting historical trees.

“This revival is not only about saving a tree — it is about safeguarding history and contributing to a greener, healthier future,” he remarked.
