PESHAWAR, May 23: Ibrahim Qasimi, MMA’s member of the NWFP Assembly, survived an attempt on his life in his home in the Mashin Ghari locality by a ‘hired’ assailant on Tuesday morning. The MPA said that he was sitting in his guest room along with some other people when there was a nock at the door at around 9am and when someone opened the door the assailant opened fire at him (MPA).

“He missed the target as my men tried to overpower him,” said Mr Qasimi.

The assailant escaped firing into the air along with his accomplice who was waiting for him on the Landi Arbab Road, he added.

No one was hurt, he said, adding that the assailant was a hired killer and identified him as Janay, who belongs to the same locality.

The MPA said he had no rivalry with anyone and called upon the police to expose the people behind the attack.

He complained that the police did not come to his house despite repeated calls. The police only approached him after 2pm when Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani intervened, he said.

Sources in the concerned Bhana Mari police station expressed ignorance about the incident.

Mr Qasimi had affiliations with the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan in the past. But, he contested the 2002 election as an independent candidate and later joined the MMA.
