Wapda fight hard for victory

ISLAMABAD, May 21: Wapda defeated Army 2-1 on Sunday in a well-fought Pool ‘B’ match of the National Team Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex.

In what was the longest match of the day, star player Farhan Mahboob went down to Shahnawaz of Army 10-9, 9-10, 5-9, 4-9 after being on court for just over an hour.

But Yasir Butt and Aamir Atlas secured their respective matches that helped Wapda secure victory on the second day of the championship.

Yasir outplayed Wasim Shad 9-2, 9-4, 9-0 and Aamir defeated Khalid Atlas 9-4, 6-9, 9-5, 9-6.

In other matches Navy blanked Sindh 3-0 and CAA thrashed HEC and Railways by similar margins while PAF edged Punjab 2-1.

Navy bt Sindh 3-0 (Khayal Muhammad bt Sheroze 9-5, 9-4, 9-6; Farrukh Zaman bt Kashif Khan 9-4, 9-3, 9-5; Adil Atlas bt Asif Khan 9-4, 9-1, 9-0).

CAA bt HEC 3-0 (Majid Khan bt Faheem Zaman 9-1, 9-0, 9-0; Amjad Khan bt Atiq 9-2, 9-6, 9-4; Basit bt Yasir 9-4, 9-4, 9-5).

CAA bt Railways 3-0 (Majid bt Yasir 9-0, 9-0, 9-2; Amjad Khan bt M. Arshad 9-0, 9-0, 9-0; Basit bt M. Wasim 9-0, 9-3, 9-4).

NWFP bt Railways 3-0 (Riaz bt Yasir Sarwar 9-7, 9-2, 9-10, 9-4; Sajid bt M. Arshad 9-2, 9-1, 9-6; Alamzeb Jr bt M. Wasim 9-2, 9-0, 7-9, 9-3).

Sindh bt HEC 3-0 (Sheroze bt Fahim Zaman 9-3, 9-6, 9-0; Asif Khan bt Atiq 9-1, 9-0, 9-0; Naveed Alam bt Yasir 9-4, 9-6, 9-0).

Pool B:

PAF bt Punjab 2-1 (Safeerullah bt Shoaib 9-2, 9-4, 10-8, Naveed Atlas bt Mohammad Naveed 3-9, 9-2, 9-0, 9-3, Asghar Khan lost to Sheikh Saqib 1-9, 4-9, 7-9).
