BAJAUR: Scores of people displaced from Lowi Mamund and War Mamund areas due to the military operation protested their non-registration for the provincial government’s financial package on Thursday.
They demonstrated at the Civil Colony in Khar, saying a large number of IDPs live with communities in different areas and several relief camps established by the government.
The protesters claimed that the IDPs living with local communities and relatives and in rented houses, hadn’t been registered for the Rs75,000 financial package per family even a week after the launch of the ongoing registration process.
They insisted that it was unjustified to ignore IDPs living outside the relief camps for the relief package and the act won’t be “tolerated”.
Some protesters alleged exclusion of IDPs living with host communities from the government’s food scheme and insisted that most of them had yet to receive any food assistance.
They urged the district administration and PDMA to intervene to address their misery.
The IDPs ended their protest after their leaders met with a team of the district administration, including additional deputy commissioner (relief) and a representative of local ANP MPA Mohammad Nisar Khan and got the assurance of immediate action on their demands.
REGISTRATION CENTRE: Another centre was set up here on Thursday to register IDPs for the government’s financial package.
The centre, which took the number of such facilities in the region to two, was housed by the Government College of Technology Inayat Kallay.
It became functional soon after its inauguration by local PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman. The other participants included Nawagai subdivision assistant commissioner Irshadul Haq, PDMA and Nadra officials and representatives of a private cellular phone operator.
Dr Rehman said the second registration centre’s establishment was direly needed as the single centre was struggling to cater for thousands of approaching displaced people.
He hoped that the centre would not only expedite registration for the financial package but also alleviate the plight of IDPs, as it was located in Khar where most IDPs lived.
The lawmaker called for the establishment of at least two more such centres to the relief of IDPs.
He asked IDPs to visit the facility on designated days only to prevent mismanagement.
Officials of the district administration, PDMA and Nadra pledged to set up two more IDP registration points “very soon.”
