ISLAMABAD, May 20: The Punjab government after intimating the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) about reduction in its water requirements has announced to cut down its share of water from dams and rivers whereas Sindh and Balochistan governments have increased their share, Irsa sources said on Friday.

Sources said, Punjab had reduced its share from 165,000 cusecs to 119,000 cusecs while Sindh would take 150,000 cusecs from May 21.

It was said that Punjab had reduced its water share from 45,000 cusecs to 42,000 from River Indus and from 65,000 to 22,000 cusecs from its share of water from Mangla Dam. At present, Sindh is utilising 120,000 cusecs water but from May 21 onwards Sindh will get 30,000 cusecs more.

For the purpose of meeting the new requirement Irsa has increased the outflow from Tarbela to 140,000 from previous 120,000.—Online
