PESHAWAR, May 20: Speakers on Saturday said drug use affected youths mentally, socially, psychologically and economically.

They were speaking at a function organised by the health department in collaboration with the Department of International Relations at the University of Peshawar.

Several students favoured making drug tests compulsory for admission in universities.

They called for appointing specialist teachers, counselling students against the ill effects of drug use.

Some of them called for disciplining students who had become drug addicts and said that the use of drugs eroded human sense of creativity. They called upon parents and teachers to play their role in eliminating the use of drugs.

Some students said there was no need for compulsory drug test and said that drug use was a symptom of social injustice.

Almost everyone agreed that drug use destroyed a person’s personality and dignity besides causing severe social, psychological, physical and environmental problems.—Correspondent
