LAHORE: Two suspected robbers were allegedly killed in separate encounters with the Crime Control Department (CCD) on Wednesday.

A police official said that a CCD team signaled three motorcyclists to stop for identification near Akram Park. However, he claimed that the suspects opened fire on the CCD team. The team returned fire and one suspect identified as Imran was found dead, while his accomplices managed to escape, he said.

The other encounter took place at Sabzi Mandi where suspect Ijaz was allegedly killed during an encounter with the CCD, while his accomplice fled the scene, he said.

The police claimed both suspects were hardened criminals and they were allegedly killed by the firing of their own accomplices. Meanwhile, a teacher of a private university was found dead under mysterious circumstances from his residence in Johar Town.

According to initial reports, Mohammad Rizwan (35) was found hanged in his house. A police official said the deceased was a professor at a private university and living alone at the house.

He said the police and forensic experts were investigating whether it was a suicide or a murder.

To a question, the official said, Mr Rizwan was a resident of Multan and they had alerted his family about the death.

The police had taken the body for postmortem to further investigate the cause of death, the police official said.
