KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday remanded a suspected agent of Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in the custody of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in a case pertaining to his alleged terror financing and facilitation in a targeted killing in Pakistan.

The investigating officer of the case produced suspect Muhammad Arsalan before the administrative judge of the ATCs, at the Judicial Complex inside the central prison and stated that he was apprehended on Aug 17 and booked for offences under Sections 11-H (fund raising) and 11-N (punishment under sections 11H to 11K) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

While the IO requested the court to remand the suspect in CTD custody for one month, the judge gave three-day remand and directed him to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

Earlier, the CTD had arrested four suspected RAW agents — Muhammad Sajad alias Shado, Ubaid alias Ubaidi, Muhammad Umari Asghar, and Shakeel Ahmed — in a case registered at the Matli police station in District Badin over the murder of philanthropist Abdul Rehman alias Raza in May.

The CTD stated that the four suspects were apprehended near the outer gate of the railway station at Drigh Road and they are on police remand till Aug 21.

The CTD claimed that initial interrogation revealed Arsalan and Umair’s involvement in terror financing, while the remaining suspects were directly linked to the targeted killing of the Pakistani citizen.

It added that an “Indian national” had given them the target and paid Rs3 million.
