ISLAMABAD, May 19: The Pakistan government has expressed its reservations on the interim report of Amir Cheema’s controversial death in Germany challenging the claim of the German authorities that he had committed suicide in police custody, sources in the interior ministry told Dawn on Friday.

The sources said although the interim report of Cheema’s death prepared by the German authorities had confirmed the earlier version of the police that he had committed suicide, the government had conveyed its reservations to Germany.

They said a team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), led by Additional Director General Tariq Khosa, had recently visited Germany to take part in preliminary investigation of the case and post-mortem of the deceased.

The FIA has also prepared its interim report on the death of Cheema and shown reservations on the report of the German authorities, the sources said.

However, the official was reluctant to elaborate the contents of the report.
