KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has launched the File Movement Management System (FMMS) in all branches of its land department to enhance transparency and efficiency.

KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui told Dawn that the FMMS would reduce delays and increase accountability in land transactions, making the department’s operations more efficient and transparent.

“By digitising file movement and eliminating manual intervention, the KDA aims to provide quick and transparent services to citizens,” he added.

Talking to Dawn on Wednesday, KDA Land Director Asif Raza Chandio said: “The department aims to reduce corruption and ensure quick and transparent service delivery to the citizens.”

Outlining the key features of FMMS, Mr Chandio said that all official computers would mandatorily have the FMMS software installed, and manual entries would be discontinued. He said that the system would operate from 10am to 5pm on all working days.

“Files will only be processed or shifted with proper approval and QR code validation,” he added.

Additionally, he said, password sharing was strictly prohibited, and individuals would be held accountable for their assigned credentials.

Emphasising the importance of handling records with diligence, he warned that any lapses on part of the officials would result in disciplinary action against them.

This step is seen as a long-awaited move towards modernising public service operations as people have been facing a great deal of hardship in land related matters.
