An Israeli reservist soldier who had taken part in a recent military offensive in the Gaza Strip has been found dead in an apparent suicide, Anadolu Agency reports, citing Israeli media.

The Yedioth Ahronoth daily, citing a military statement, said the body of the 28-year-old soldier was found in Switzerland Forest near Tiberias.

The officer reportedly served with the 99th Division operating in the Gaza Strip and was part of a recently formed unit that took part in the fighting in recent weeks.

The Israeli military said the Military Police have opened an investigation into the officer’s death, with the findings to be submitted to the Military Advocate General for review.

If confirmed, it would mark the 17th suicide case in the military since the beginning of the year.
