QUETTA: Four people, including a Levies official and a tribal elder, were martyred and another injured in a grenade attack and firing incidents in Quetta and Khuzdar districts, while a body was found on Thursday.

Officials said that unknown people riding motorcycles hurled a grenade at personnel Eagle Squad patrolling in Killi Zareen, a locality on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

The grenade exploded but missed the target, and the personnel remained unhurt. However, two motorcyclists passing through the area came under the grenade attack. One of them was killed on the spot, while the other sustained injuries.

Police van attacked near university

Police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel rushed to the site and shifted the body and the injured to Civil Hospital. The deceased was identified as Ghulam Farooq who received multiple injuries that caused his death.

Levies man gunned down

In a separate incident, unknown armed men gunned down a Levies official in the Johan area of Kalat district. The Levies official, identified as Bhlo Khan Lehri, was on his way home when he was targeted by armed motorcyclists. He died on the spot, and his body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities.

Tribal elder killed

Unknown assailants also killed a tribal elder in Kalat district. Police found his body in the Askalko Gundan area of Kalat. He was identified as Khizar Hayat. According to initial investigation, the deceased had been kidnapped from his home by unidentified armed men a few days earlier. No group has claimed responsibility for the killings so far.

Body found

Meanwhile, police found a body in the Chashma Achozai area, a locality on the outskirts of Quetta. The body was taken into custody and shifted to Civil Hospital.

Police van attacked

Separately, a grenade attack took place near the Balochistan University. Unknown assailants threw a hand grenade at a police vehicle, but it failed to explode. The bomb disposal squad reached the site and defused the grenade.
