KARACHI: A man was killed, while a policeman and two others were injured when armed assailants attacked a police post near Qayyumabad late on Friday night.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Mohammed Ali Niazi told Dawn that armed suspects riddled the Sajid Zaman police post with gunfire before fleeing.

As a result, a man identified as Abbas, 30, was killed, while police constable Hanif Khan, 28, and two others Saddam Husain, 30, and Fazal Karim, 42, were injured.

The killed and injured men worked at a tyre repair shop.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The officer said the incident appeared to be an act of terrorism. He said the exact number of assailants was not known. However, investigators had collected 22 spent bullet casings from the crime scene.
