SUKKUR: A fierce gun battle between two rival groups of Mirani clansmen left a woman and a youth dead in Dad Mohammad Mirani village of Tangwani taluka in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Tuesday.

According to locals and the area police, the two sides had long been at daggers drawn over a matter of ‘honour’. They took up sophisticated firearms today and fought a battle, they said, adding that four persons sustained bullet wounds and two of them died on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Alisha Mirani and 20-year-old Asad Mirani and one of the wounded victims as Ghulam Nabi.

Intermittent firing was continuing till late in the evening as both sides had taken up positions in their respective dwellings.

Officials at the Ghouspur police station said that deployment had been made around the village and personnel were trying to bring the situation under control.
