HARIPUR: An elderly woman died and two other family members were injured when the roof of their house collapsed in a semi-urban locality of the city, police and rescue officials said here on Sunday.

Police quoted the area people as saying that three members of an Afghan family were asleep in a room of their mud house in Mohallah Javed Abad when, on Sunday morning, the roof of the room caved in, burying them all under the debris.

The residents from the neighbouring houses rushed to rescue the Afghan family and succeeded in recovering a young man and an elderly couple in injured condition and shifted them to the Haripur Trauma Centre.

However, the doctors pronounced the elderly woman as brought dead. The woman was identified as Dilawara Gul Bibi, 62, while the injured as Wahab Gul, 90, and his son, Jamil Gul, 27.

The condition of the injured man and his son was stated to be out of danger, hospital sources said.

The police and area people said that the condition of the mud house was dilapidated, which further worsened in the recent rain spell.

Meanwhile, the TIP police shifted the unclaimed body of a man to the trauma centre on Sunday. Police said that the area people spotted a body of a man in his 50s near Noor Colony.

Police and hospital sources said that the body carried no marks of violence, proving that the cause of death was natural.

The hospital authorities conducted an autopsy of the body to determine the exact cause of death.
