SUKKUR, May 16: Over 100 employees of the Sukkur Barrage on Tuesday staged a token demonstration against the bifurcation of the barrage region into two zones. Protesters gathered in front of the chief engineer’s office to protest against the division of the barrage into the Sukkur barrage left region and Sukkur barrage right region.

They said, with the shifting of the headquarters to Larkana, the employees would become homeless, and education of their children would also suffer.

They demanded that the chief minister and the Sindh governor, provincial minister irrigation and secretary irrigation should withdraw the decision, keeping in view the problems of the employees.

The government of Sindh has bifurcated the Sukkur Barrage into two regions. The headquarters of the right zone will be established in Larkana while that of left zone in Sukkur.
