PESHAWAR: Bara Siyasi Ittehad, an alliance of different political parties of Bara, has demanded of both federal and provincial governments to restore peace in Khyber tribal district.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, representatives of the alliance headed by its president Hashim Khan demanded immediate restoration of peace in Tirah valley of Khyber tribal district.

They said that killing and inuring innocent civilians, especially women and children, in indiscriminate firing by both terrorists and security forces caused serious unrest among the people of Khyber district.

Hashim Khan said that the people of Tirah rejected any new conflict, operation or aggression and would not allow militant groups or state institutions to turn the area into a battlefield.

“The alliance demands of the state to take responsibility of establishing peace in Tirah and refrain from forcing local population to make further sacrifices in shape of displacement,” he said.

He also called for a concrete action plan involving local elders, tribal leaders and politicians to ensure peace and avoid forced displacement of people.

The representatives of the alliance also rejected any attempt to impose taxes in tribal districts. They demanded of the federal government to fulfil its promises made with tribal people, including those made by Sartaj Aziz Commission.

They said that the alliance recently held a large peace gathering in Bara Bazaar wherein thousands of people demanded an end seizure of minerals and establishment of peace in Khyber.

They appealed to government, political leaders and state institutions to allow the people to live a peaceful and dignified life as it was their fundamental right.
