ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Monday called for restructuring the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on modern lines.

He was chairing a meeting at the FIA headquarters where it was decided that the agency would be reorganised on modern lines. The minister sought a comprehensive plan on it.

He directed immediate work on necessary amendments to laws and rules to make the agency more effective. He also approved immediate provision of modern technology and essential weaponry to the FIA.

Mr Naqvi emphasised that the FIA must meet public expectations in line with government directives. He stated that the agency’s performance will be the basis for further incentives and ordered indiscriminate crackdown against mafia involved in illegal immigration and the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy against it.

He said it was FIA’s prime responsibility to stop elements tarnishing the country’s image. He directed that the immigration process at the airports should be simplified and made more convenient to facilitate the citizens.

He also instructed the establishment of fast track counters at the airports. Moreover, the FIA training curriculum should be updated according to modern standards. Given the shortage of staff, the minister ordered immediate recruitment on already approved vacant positions.
