QUETTA: At least six tribesmen were killed and several injured in a deadly clash in Qila Abdullah, a district bordering Afghanistan, on Sunday.

Officials said armed clashes broke out between two groups of Kakozai Achakzai and Badowan Kakar tribes in Toot Adha area of Qila Abdullah.

Armed men from both sides opened fire at their rivals using automatic weapons.

A dispute over a land between the two tribes reportedly caused the clash.

The heavy firing resulted in fear and panic in the area. Locals were locked inside their homes and all shops and businesses were closed.

Six people were reported dead in the hours-long exchange of fire.

The clashes came to a halt after a large contingent of the Frontier Corps and Levies arrived in the area.

Security forces cordoned off the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the district hospital.

Officials said the condition of at least four injured was serious. They were shifted to Quetta for medical treatment.

Security forces have launched an operation in the area to arrest the warring tribesmen.
