KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has acknowledged some challenges to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project but maintained that the pace of construction has now picked up and overall progress on the key transport scheme is satisfactory.

“The priority of the Sindh government is to integrate all BRT lines in the city — Green, Orange, Red and Yellow lines — which will significantly ease traffic congestion and provide citizens with pollution-free travel options,” he said.

Mr Memon, who holds the portfolios of information, transport and mass transit, was talking to reporters at the Jam Sadiq Bridge during his visit to review the construction work of the Yellow Line project.

He said the progress on the Yellow Line project is satisfactory, with work advancing swiftly on two key components — the construction of depots and the new structure replacing the Jam Sadiq Bridge.

He emphasised the government’s objective is to complete the project ahead of schedule to provide the citizens of Karachi with access to modern and high-quality public transport services.

He added that electric buses (EV buses) are being introduced under the Yellow Line and other BRT projects.

He said that the launch of double-decker buses, electric taxi service and pink EV scooters for women are part of the Sindh government’s broader vision to reduce environmental pollution in Karachi and to provide a modern and efficient transport infrastructure.
