KARACHI: Ahtisham Humaiyun, Zohaib Afzal, Hasan Usmani, Ruhab Faisal and Mohammad Yahya registered convincing wins in the second round of the National Tennis Championship here at the Karachi Club on Sunday.

Ahtisham routed Inam Qadir 6-0, 6-0, while Zohaib overcame Shahmoon Hidayat 6-3, 6-4. Earlier, Hasan downed Haziq Areejo 6-3, 6-3 and Ruhab beat Zayd Zaman 6-4, 6-2. Yahya, meanwhile, downed Arham Shahzad 6-2, 6-0 to advance.

The men’s singles second-round matches saw Ruhab defeat Bilal Soomro 8-6, Nadir Bachani, beating Laraib Shamsi 8-1, Farhan Altaf hammering Abdullah Tahseen 8-1 and Kashan Tariq recording a narrow 8-6 win over Raahim Veqar.

The ladies’ singles second-round featured Eschelle Asif overpowering 8-0 win against Mahwish Faisal, Sakina Shah trouncing Nimra 8-0 and Tahreem Yousuf beating Fiza M. Hasan 8-1.

Eschelle and Tahreem also advanced in the girls’ U-18 third round following wins over Sakina Pir and Dua Yousuf, respectively.

In the girls’ U-14 first round, Romaisa Malik, Shahnoor Umer and Dua recorded flawless straight sets triumphs while Shahreen Umer edged Zainab Afnan.

In the boys’ under-14 first-round play saw Junaid Meher record a thumping 4-0, 4-2 win against Rohan Das.

In the boys’ under-12 competition, Majid Ali Bachani, Ashter Aalam, Arsh Imran, M. Ibraheem Gill booked their spots in the quarter-finals following crushing victories.

Boys’ under-10: Ashter Alam bt Zohyre Imad 4-0, 4-0, Abdullah Ali bt Zayan Nomi 4-1, 4-0, Sophie Allawala bt Maisha Khokher 4-0, 4-0, Ibrahim Zaman bt Hamza Sattar 5-4, 2-4, 4-2.

Men’s 55-plus doubles: Altaf Hussain/Karim Gul Agha bt Noorullah Dhanani/Amir Mumtaz 8-3.
