KARACHI: A brother of deceased actor Humaira Asghar Ali, whose months-old body was recovered from a flat in DHA, Phase-VI, the other day, has arrived in here to receive her body, said South-DIG Syed Asad Raza.

He said that Naveed Asghar, her elder brother, arrived from Lahore today and met South SSP Mahzoor Ali and Gizri SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani. He told them that he wanted to receive the body and take it to Lahore for burial.

DIG Raza told Dawn that the actor’s body would be handed over to her brother after DNA matching. He said the blood samples of Naveed were taken and the DNA report was expected to be available tomorrow (Friday).

Regarding investigation, the South police chief said that reports of histopathological and chemical examination were also awaited. These reports would help establish the exact cause of her death.

About the information being shared on social media by a purported friend of the deceased actor, the DIG said that police tried their best to contact her but found her mobile phone off.

He said no one had approached the police with regard to the assertions made by the woman.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed told Dawn that all samples of the body for chemical analysis, DNA profiling and cross matching were sent to ICCBS, University of Karachi.

She said that blood samples of Naveed Asghar were also taken as the body was beyond recognition.

Dr Summaiya said it was written in the autopsy report issued to the police on Thursday that the body was around eight to 10 months old. “There were no injury marks on her remains,” said the surgeon.
