RAWALPINDI: Six people, including three children and a security guard, drowned in rain-related incidents over the past two days in different parts of the district, police and emergency services reported.

In Kallar Syedan, on Choa Khalsa Takal Road, three children — two of whom were a sister and her brother — drowned in a nullah while playing nearby on Monday.

Police and emergency services stated that Usman Nadeem, 10, his nine-year-old sister Tayyaba Nadeem, and their six-year-old cousin Hamza Aftab drowned after stepping into the nullah. Five children were playing near the nullah when three moved into the water and drowned. Their bodies were later recovered and handed over to their families.

Three people, including a child and a disabled girl, died and seven others, including two children, were injured in various incidents of drowning and fire during Sunday’s rain in Rawalpindi. Rescue 1122 conducted rescue operations and transported the dead and injured to hospital.

According to emergency services and police, during the heavy rain that continued until Sunday morning, a house in the Chahat area of Kahuta tehsil, Rawalpindi, collapsed. One child died and four people, including two children, were injured. Rescue 1122 staff rescued the parents and two children from the rubble, providing first aid before hospitalisation.

Similarly, a private security guard died after slipping into a nullah in Shahbagh area of Kallar Syedan on Sunday. The police recovered the body of Shakeel from Soan River near Sihala and handed it over to his heirs.

Additionally, on Chakri Road at Dhoke Lakhan, a disabled girl was killed after being trapped in a fire that broke out in her house. The fire was controlled by Rescue 1122, and her body was taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman and a man sustained burns after a pressure cooker exploded in their home in Quaid-i-Azam Colony in Dhamial. The injured were taken to the hospital by Rescue 1122.

Moreover, a man died and his brother’s wife’s condition worsened after they consumed poisonous pills in Ranial area of Dhamial police station on Sunday, police reported.

Rescue 1122 responded to reports that a couple had attempted to take their own lives by ingesting poison. The team provided first aid and shifted them to hospital in critical condition.

The man, believed to be between 18 and 19 years old, did not survive, while his sister-in-law’s condition was described as critical.

Police officials stated that the deceased’s mother accused the daughter-in-law of giving pills to her son. Initial investigations revealed that the girl, who had married about a month ago, was reportedly loved by her husband’s late younger brother, who wished to marry her himself, but the marriage was to be with his elder brother. Both are alleged to have taken pills over this issue.

Dhamial police added that the girl’s condition is improving and she is expected to regain full consciousness.

The full circumstances will become clearer once she can give her statement after recovery.
