BAHAWALNAGAR, May 13: Two alleged robbers were killed while their two accomplices escaped after a police encounter near Chak Abdullah police post on Friday night.

Bahawalnagar DPO Sheikh Umar said at a press conference here on Saturday the driver of a mini truck informed the police that four gunmen had robbed him.

He said police chased the robbers and besieged them in fields. They opened fire on the police which was retaliated. The crossfire continued for about two hours and two of the robbers were killed while their accomplices fled from the scene.

The dead robbers have been identified as Ashfaq alias Fauji of Burewala tehsil in Vehari district and Yaqoob of Bachianwali robbed the driver of a mini truck who informed the police.

The DPO said the robbers were active in the area for quite some time.
