QUETTA: The UN refugee agency, in partnership with its private sector collaborator LONGi, has solarised the Bolan Medical Complex (BMC).

The project is expected to save Rs70 million and reduce carbon emissions by 468 tonnes each year.

The clean energy project represents a critical step towards sustainable healthcare, benefiting both Afghan refugees and the local Pakistani community in Balochistan. It will generate approximately 1.16m kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, meeting the entire energy needs of one of Balochistan’s largest hospitals.

A ceremony held at the BMC on Tuesday was attended by Health Department’s Special Secretary Shehak Baloch, UNHCR representative in Pakistan Philippa Candler, head of UNHCR Quetta Tesfaye Bekele, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Arbab Talib and other officials.
