ISLAMABAD, May 12: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) held a meeting on Friday with leading tour operators of the country to discuss the marketing of a three-day Shandur Polo Festival.

The meeting was chaired by PTDC Managing Director Salman Javed.

The participants were advised to contribute actively in selling Shandur Festival as a tourist product in the domestic and international markets equally.

It was said passion for polo would be high on Shandur Top — 3,734 meters, the world’s highest polo ground. Like previous years, Shandur invites visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament between the teams of Gilgit and Chitral from July 7 to July 9.

The three-day festival also includes folk music, folk dances, traditional sports, food and handicrafts gala and a camping village would be set up on the pass, the meeting was informed.

Polo was introduced in South Asia by the Muslims in the 13th century while the first polo tournament was held in 1936.
