SRINAGAR, May 11: Occupied Kashmir’s top lawyers on Thursday protested on the streets of main city demanding action against people caught up in an alleged prostitution racket.

Led by Kashmir High Court Bar Association president Mian Abdul Qayoom, about 100 lawyers in black gowns shouted “Down with Kashmir police” and “Hang the culprits” as they marched through Srinagar.

“We are concerned that police have not disclosed names of those alleged to be involved in the scandal,” Mr Qayoom told reporters.

On Wednesday, all the lawyers in Srinagar boycotted the courts over what Mr Qayoom called the “police’s inaction against the culprits.”

Authorities unearthed the racket last month involving over 40 women whose clients allegedly included politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen in occupied Kashmir.

A mob had stormed the house of a woman accused of organising the prostitution ring on Friday.—AFP
