Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has said that Security Council members warned the international community of an escalation in Iran during a prior UNSC meeting.
“We have heard the same today around the table from council members, as well as the secretary general and other briefers. But tragically, developments over the past 24 hours have only confirmed those warnings,” he said, referring to US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
“It is unfortunate that the universal calls for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of this crisis through dialogue have remained unheeded.”
