KOHAT, May 11: Police on Thursday registered criminal cases against a regional and franchise manager of a mobile phone company for not taking action against their customers making hoax calls.

Some customers of the cellular service had been making hoax calls to police and using foul language against law-enforcement personnel for several weeks. By passing on wrong information on the telephone the mischievious mobile users forced police to rush to places where nothing happened.

At times they reported to police that robberies were in progress but when police reached the site of the alleged crime the information turned out to be bogus.

The Cantt police also registered cases against 320 obnoxious callers who had been teasing the Rescue 15 staff for the last four months which sometimes delayed rescue action in response to genuine calls, according to a press release issued here.

The in-charge of the Rescue 15 Ibrahimullah Khan said he had asked the cellphone company’s regional manager to either block these numbers or disclose the identity of customers so that police could take action against them.

But the company did not take any action in this regard despite several reminders which compelled them to register cases under the telegraphic act against the local management of the company and the callers.

HASHISH SEIZED: Janglekhel police foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of hashish and arms from Darra Adam Khel in an operation on Wednesday night.

According to police, the smugglers fled the scene upon seeing the police and left behind 80 kilograms of hashish and five assault rifles.

A case had been registered against the carriers, police said.
