KASUR, May 10: Two alleged robbers were killed and their accomplice was arrested while two made good their escape after a three-hour encounter on Wednes-day on Raiwind-Manga road.

Police claimed that five gunmen on two motorcycles entered the Amroz Pharmex. At that time the cashier was sitting in his office with Rs1.5 million in cash for disbursement of staff salaries.

They said the robbers snatched the weapon of the security guard at the gate. The robbers stormed into the cashier’s office and took away the cash. They left the factory while firing in the air.

The Raiwind Saddar police reached the spot and chased the dacoits who took refuge in a brick kiln. In the meanwhile, the Kasur DPO along with other senior officers reached the spot.

Police said the robbers opened fire which was retaliated. Nasir Meo of Khara village died on the spot while his brother Sabir succumbed to his injuries in Chunian Civil Hospital while Abid Meo of Sham Kot, Kanganpur, was arrested. Their two accomplices, however, managed to escape.

They recovered the looted money from the robbers’ possession along with the guard’s gun and other illicit weapons.

GANGS BUSTED: The district police claimed to have busted four gangs of bandits on Wednesday.

DPO Syed Ahmed Mobeen told journalists that a raiding team, headed by the DSP (investigation) and the Phoolnagar SHO, was constituted which arrested four members of the Shahzad dacoits’ gang from their hideout at Phoolnagar.

The DPO said the police also recovered illicit weapons and Rs125,000 in cash from the arrested accused — ring leader Shahzad, Yasin Lala, Abdul Sattar, Abdul Jabbar (Okara) and Niamat (Sharqpur). The gang was wanted by police in several cases of robbery and other heinous crime.

Meanwhile, DSP Chunian and Changa Manga SHO arrested three members of the Sakhawat gang of robbers after a brief encounter.

Those arrested were: ring leader Sakhawat, Munir and Sadiq while their two accomplices Tariq and Manzoor managed to escape. Police also recovered illicit weapons from their possession. The DPO formed a raiding team for the arrest of the remaining accused.

Another police team, headed by the Sadar DSP (investigation) and the Raja Jang SHO, busted the Fazal gang of dacoits and arrested its four members — Sadiq and Asif of Lahore, Tariq of Arifwala and Salim of Pattoki. Police also seized cell phones, illicit weapons, cash and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from them.

The fourth gang of bandits — the Arshad gang — was also busted by a raiding police team, headed by the Raiwind Sadar SHO, Those arrested were identified as Arshad of Lahore, Jafar of Sahiwal and Abid of Okara. — Correspondent
