SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Unidentified armed assailants opened fire on Wana-Azam Warsak Road in Birmal tehsil of Lower South Waziristan district and later set two non-custom paid vehicles ablaze on Thursday night.

The incident sparked panic and fear among the local people, prompting the district administration to launch an investigation.

According to additional deputy commissioner Khalid Qayum, an exchange of fire lasted for approximately 30 minutes, after which the assailants torched the two NCP vehicles, which were reportedly going to Wana via Azam Warsak.

Mr Qayum said that the motive behind the attack remains unknown and it is still unclear as to why the vehicles were targeted.

“No credible information has so far been received regarding the identity of the vehicle owners.”

The district administration has initiated an investigation into the incident; however, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.

Local political and social leaders have expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the steadily deteriorating law and order situation across the region.
