RAWALPINDI: The district administration has imposed Section 144 on pigeon racing, kite flying and use of drones five kilometres around the old Islamabad airport, Qasim Airbase and Nur Khan Airbase for one month.

It asked Rawalpindi Waste Management Company and Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation to ensure no animal waste is dumped in the area.

Pakistan Air force authorities have asked the district administration to ensure proper cleanliness around the airfield area of Nur Khan Airbase, Qasim Air Base and the airport during Eidul Azha.

A PAF officers’ delegation held a meeting with additional deputy commissioner Dr Hassaan Tariq and other officials and discussed security measures around the airbases.

The district administration officials told Dawn that the deputy commissioner had already apprised the authorities of the plan for cleanliness during Eidul Azha and assured them that special arrangements would be made around the runway.

After this, the district administration and local police held a meeting at the deputy commissioner and it was decided that an awareness campaign would be launched so that people would not dump animal waste around the airbases.

They said the district administration would deploy special teams at Rawal Road, Khanna Road, Airport Road and adjoining areas to ensure nobody dumped animal waste around the runway and the airbases.

They said the district administration had already imposed a ban on vendors selling animals on roads and areas around sensitive installations.

They said a ban would also be imposed on the establishment of meat shops in the areas around the runway.

The meeting reviewed cleanliness of Khurram Colony, Sadiqabad, Koral Chowk, Dhoke Hafiz, Chah Sultan and various other areas around the airport on the occasion of Eidul Azha and instructions were issued to the relevant departments.

Regarding cleanliness, RWM will issue orders to immediately remove waste of sacrificial animals from areas where there is waste dumping. In this regard, RWMC has a greater responsibility to immediately remove any kind of sacrificial waste from the areas during Eid.

Apart from this, all areas around Islamabad International Airport, Mumtaz City and areas that fall within the limits of Rawalpindi should also be cleaned in advance so that no dirt spreads there during Eid.
