HYDERABAD, May 8: The University of Sindh and the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro have postponed the examination scheduled for Tuesday.

The obvious reason appears to be a call for general strike given by Sindh Qaumi Ittehad in protest against the demolition of Sindhi villages and construction of Bhasha Dam.

A notification issued by the controller of examinations, University of Sindh, said it was putting off the paper due to unavoidable circumstances.

A new date for the examination would be announced later while dates for the remaining papers would remain unchanged, it added.

Examinations for the first and second semesters of bachelors and masters commenced at Allama I I Kazi Campus on Monday, in which a total of 24,000 male and female students are appearing.

Meanwhile, Vice-chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui accompanied by Registrar Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro, Director Admissions Muhammad Saleh Rajar and Controller of Examinations Dr Parvez Pathan paid a surprise visit to several examination centres to check arrangements.
