LAHORE: Lahore city district administration plans to make sacrificial animals sales points operational by May 20, as various arrangements are being finalised in this connection these days.

According to official sources, these sale points would be equipped with various facilities, including fodder stalls, mobile banks, water and electricity supply, tenting, medical booths and rest areas.

“This time, we will make batter arrangements than the last year’s,” an official source told Dawn on Sunday, adding that no one would be allowed to sell sacrificial animals at places other than the designated points.

According to him, the animal sale points under consideration these days include Shahpur Kanjran cattle market (Multan Road, near Thokar)– Punjab’s largest cattle market on Saggian Road near Sui Gas Office in Ravi Town (city tehsil), Barki Road near Paragon City in Aziz Bhatti Town (Cantonment), New King Lane Housing Society, Sport Complex (Adda Rakh Chabeel) in Wagah, (Shalimar tehsil), LDA City near Sidhar village, Kahna Kaacha in Nishtar Town (Model Town Tehsil) and near Haveli Markaz in Allama Iqbal Town (Raiwind tehsil). Shahpur Kanjran is the permanent market being operated by the Punjab Cattle Market Management & Development Company. The other sale points will be operated temporarily till Eid by the respective town/zonal administrations of the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation.

Meanwhile, the sacrificial animals’ sale and purchase is yet to start, as there are no customers these days. “In fact, most people prefer purchasing animals around a week ahead of Eid,” a city administration official says. “Hope the animal trade business will start from May 20 and will pick momentum by the last week of this month,” he adds.

SANITATION: City administration claimed to have intensified efforts to improve sanitation and sewerage infrastructure through a series of inspections and enforcement actions.

According to DC Syed Musa Raza, the administration has demonstrated renewed commitment to transforming Lahore into a cleaner city free of encroachments.

During his visits to City Tehsil, the DC inspected Qartaba Chowk, Tollinton Market, Nonarian Road and surrounding areas, to inspect sanitation, removal of nomads’ huts, and condition of sewerage infrastructure.

Accompanied by LMCChief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia and City Assistant Commissioner Babar Ali Rai, the DC received briefings on the ongoing operations and administrative measures. The visit included a thorough quality assessment of construction work on the drainage channel adjacent to Tollinton Market, where the DC emphasised importance of maintaining high construction standards to ensure long-term durability of infrastructure.

He directed the Lahore Waste Management Company to ensure effective cleaning operations in the district, whilst the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) officials were asked to immediately resolve sewerage issues and ensure proper drain clearance.

He also ordered daily collection of solid waste and its transfer to the designated dumping sites, preventing environmental pollution and improving the city’s aesthetics.

The district administration has also been mandated to immediately relocate nomads’ huts and cattle from residential areas to improve the city’s sanitation conditions.

RAILWAYS: The Pakistan Railways (PR) on Sunday claimed to have ensured on time departure of a majority passenger trains from Lahore to various destinations.

According to a PR spokesman for Lahore division, the punctuality of trains remained 85pc during the last week.
