A PAINFUL ROUTE: Street vendors, pushcarts and motor mechanics have occupied the roads in Azizabad and Ishaqabad areas of Karachi. Due to illegal encroachments, traffic congestion has become a daily problem, and even pedes-trians face extreme difficulties. Additionally, the Karimabad underpass has been in a terrible condition for months. Potholes, lack of proper drainage, and the poor condition of the road have made daily commute a painful experience. The residents of Ishaqabad and Azizabad are forced to pass through this route every day, and it has now become a source of constant irritation. The authorities con- cerned should remove the encroachments and repair the underpass immediately.

ARTS OVER SCIENCE: This is with reference to the article ‘Studying humanities’ (April 26). I have had a similar experience when I decided to switch from Science to Arts in matriculation. My parents provided tremendous support, but my extended family was a serious disappointment. However, I remained steadfast and never lost hope. Studying Humanities does not mean that a student is weak in academics. It just symbolises that their goals are different from others. Every child is born with unique cap-abilities that should be celebrated. Parents’ role is pivotal in this matter. If they stand by their children’s decision, no other power on Erath can deter them.

ENERGY COST: During the current financial year, Pakistan’s large-scale manufacturing (LSM) sector has been showing constant contraction due to low production and consumption. Besides, smaller business outlets also present a dismal performance due to higher costs of energy. It is necessary to bring down the prices of energy and other utilities in order to increase the production volume. Business outlets are continuously underperforming and incurring losses. The government must pay due attention to this worsening problem.
