ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) recorded a negative growth of 0.80 per cent year-on-year in the week ending May 8.

The SPI-based inflation maintained a declining trend for 10 consecutive weeks, mainly due to a decrease in prices of tomatoes, wheat flour, potatoes, and onions. It, however, increased 0.24pc from the preceding week, official data showed on Friday.

The items whose prices saw a decline week-on-week included tomatoes (8.81pc), garlic (5.05pc), potatoes (3.33pc), onions (2.08pc), LPG (1.66pc), bananas (0.93pc), petrol (0.83pc), diesel (0.78pc), wheat flour (0.76pc), vegetable ghee 1kg (0.46pc) and mustard oil (0.33pc).

The items whose prices increased the most over the previous week included chicken (10.20pc), eggs (7.36pc), sugar (1.93pc), beef (1.50pc), pulse mash (0.31pc), cooked beef (0.20pc), mutton (0.15pc) and gur (0.11pc).

However, on an annual basis, the items whose prices increased the most included ladies sandal (55.62pc), pulse moong (28.47pc), chicken (27.35pc), powdered milk (22.27pc), pulse gram (20.81pc), bananas (19.86pc), sugar (19.36pc), beef (19.23pc), vegetable ghee 2.5kg (14.24pc), firewood (10.60pc), lawn printed (10.33pc) and georgette (9.90pc).
