MUZAFFARABAD/QUETTA: The as­­semblies in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Balochistan on Thursday unanimously passed strongly worded resolutions condemning India for alleged cowardly and unprovoked attacks on unarmed civilians, sacred religious sites including mosques, and violations of international law.

The AJK Legislative Assembly, presided over by Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar, saw lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, including Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq and former premiers Raja Farooq Haider and Sardar Yaqoob Khan, move resolutions that paid tribute to the “martyrs of Indian aggression” and expressed heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families.

“The attacks on mosques and civilian populations by extremist India are not only a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, but also a blatant violation of the UN Charter,” the house declared.

Condemning the targeting of innocent civilians, particularly women, children, and the elderly, the assembly described these acts as “unpardonable crimes” aimed at sabotaging regional peace. It urged the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), global powers, and international human rights bodies to take immediate notice and initiate effective action.

Resolutions decry unprovoked attacks on civilians, mosques

The assembly also decried the purported targeting of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project at Nauseri, calling it “water aggression” and a violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on water infrastructure even during wartime.

Balochistan Assembly

The Balochistan Assembly, with Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai presiding, unanimously adopted a similar resolution.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who moved the resolution on Wednesday, said, “This aggression exposed India’s dangerous intentions and malicious actions to the world.”

Mr said the house strongly condemns India’s “blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and airspace”.

He said, “Under the cover of darkness last night, India carried out cowardly and unprovoked attacks on various locations in the country — including mosques in Muridke, Ahmedpur East, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli, and a dispensary near Shakargarh. As a result, several innocent, unarmed Pakistani civilians were martyred and injured.”
