KHYBER: Six persons, three children among them, were injured when mortar shells fired by security forces ‘mistakenly’ hit houses in Tirah during the last three days.

Sources in the valley said that a girl had her leg fractured while three of her other family members sustained injuries when a mortar shell fell on the house of Lal Baz in Akkakhel area of upper Bara on Wednesday.

They said that all the injured were then shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.

Two more children – Ghulam Akbar and Adnan – received fatal injuries in a similar mortar attack in Dray Chowk, Warsak area of Tirah on Sunday. They too were taken to Peshawar for treatment.

Residents showed their displeasure over the two incidents and demanded of the security forces to show maximum care while targeting militant hideouts in Tirah in order to avoid collateral damage.
