KARACHI: The annual intermediate examinations for 2025 under the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) commenced on Monday, with the Mathematics Paper I (failures) of Science Pre-Engineering Group being conducted first in the morning shift.

BIEK Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho, Secretary Mohammad Kashif Siddiqui and Controller of Examinations Zarina Rashid visited the Apwa Government College for Women, Karimabad, and reviewed the examination process.

Following the visit, the chairman expressed his overall satisfaction with the facilities provided to the students at the examination centre, the presence of the invigilation staff and the transparent and uninterrupted examination process.

Noticing an out of order fan in a room, he directed the centre superintendent to have it repaired immediately. He also said that conducting transparent examinations was BIEK’s top priority. “Special steps have been taken to make the examinations transparent and organised,” he said.

He further said that a zero tolerance policy had been adopted against cheating and that strict action would be taken against the cheating mafia. “If a student is caught cheating, their paper will be cancelled, banning him or her from taking the exam for one to three years,” he said.

Mr Soho also said that concrete steps were being taken to restore the reputation of the secondary and higher secondary education boards of Karachi. If there were some shortcomings in the preparation of the exam papers, those too will be overcome,” he said. “If any textbook is not found to be too good, we will recommend replacing it,” he added.

He also said that the BIEK will fully cooperate with FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing to take action against WhatsApp groups which leak papers. “To further improve the process of checking papers, we will hold consultations, seminars and conferences with teachers before the assessment,” he concluded.
