SUKKUR: A large plaster fell off the ceiling in the corridor of double-storied Aadarsh Government Primary School in Kandhkot town on Monday. Luckily no one was hurt as all students and teachers were attending assembly when the incident happened.

The school’s teachers told local media persons that this was not the first incident of plaster coming off the ceiling. A similar incident had taken place four months back and they had informed higher officials concerned about the crumbling condition of the school building, they said.

They said that following their complaint, a team of officials had inspected the building, but nothing followed their visit. No action was taken to repair or renovate the building nor any action was taken against the contractor, they said.

The school’s administration said that it might have led to tragedy if the plaster had fallen after the assembly time.

The teachers and parents demanded that stern action should be taken against the contractor as the building was only 14 year old and it should not start crumbling so early.

They demanded the education department and district administration make thorough inspection of the building and carry out its complete repairs in order to protect children and teaching faculty from such incidents in future.

As the news about the incident went viral on social media, District and Sessions Judge Zahid Hussain Maitlo took notice of it and ordered officials of police, executive engineer and the contractor to appear in court with a report on the incident on May 6 at 11:00 am.
